None writer friend: What's up?

Me: My brain is going insane with a new AU idea and I can do nothing about it but let the idea flow through my evil brain and into my hand, through the keyboard, onto my computer and to the word document. My life is shattering with too many WIP stories but my brain doesn't care. It just keeps going :l

None writer friend: Oh...that sounds fun.

{ Gonna deliver an unpopular opinion here, but big words are NOT NECESSARY ALL THE TIME. Things like these just makes people think they need to use big words when simple ones would suffice and that leads to purple prose that is just ridiculous to read. Repetitive use of the same words is not great either, but most of these aren’t even synonyms.
I mean—‘grinning’ as a replacement for ‘laughing’? Are you serious? Grinning is not the same thing as laughing—the main difference being that you MAKE SOUNDS WHEN YOU LAUGH WHICH YOU DON’T WHEN YOU GRIN. Or ‘boasted’ instead of ‘said’..?? Just no. Boasted means that you’re well, boasting about something, rather than just talking about something. Big difference (or should I say, JUMBO difference? :| Seriously, who says ‘jumbo’ about anything in a serious text?)
Using words like ‘nice’ and ‘pretty’ and ‘scared’ are perfectly valid and I’m sick of people acting like they aren’t just because they’re ‘simple’. God damnit. :|

  • breathed
  • sighed
  • hissed
  • mouthed
  • uttered
  • intoned
  • susurrated
  • purred
  • said in an undertone
  • gasped
  • hinted
  • said low
  • said into someone’s ear
  • said softly
  • said under one’s breath
  • said in hushed tones
  • insinuated

aye lil mama let me insinuate in ya ear

Tip #5: Deadlines

I thought making this tip number five was appropriate since it’s taken so long to get this out. I was going to make tip five character designs but my art muse has not been working at all. Sorry, this is such a sort tip.

So, deadlines and how to reach them. I find deadlines a very scary thing. They’re stressful because you look at how much time you have and think to yourself “There’s no way I’m going to reach that”. The trick is to just calm down and divide up the work. Two chapters in two weeks is a lot scarier than half a chapter every twelve hours.

Also, just keep going. Ignore writers block, keep going on. Just push past it. Write, even if it’s crap. You can go back later and edit. Just get the thoughts down for now.
